Description:
Ethel Bedford Fenwick (1857 - 1947). Mrs Ethel Bedford Fenwick trained as a nurse at Nottingham Children's Hospital. She became matron of St Bartholomew's Hospital (London) before resigning in 1887 on marrying Dr Bedford Fenwick. Mrs Bedford Fenwick devoted herself to the professional status of nursing, founding a professional organization (the British Nursing Association) to campaign for the registration of qualified nurses. She founded the British Journal of Nursing in 1893, and remained its editor until 1946.
